HOME OF NOLLA™ SILVER POLYMER TECHNOLOGY
Nolla Antimicrobial Oy
Our story
The story of Nolla Antimicrobial Oy began in 1997 when the founder of the company, Jyri, had the idea of using an ionic polymer as the carrier of effective, antimicrobial ionic silver. Nolla™ Silver Polymer Technology was created after years of research and development.
Nolla Antimicrobial Oy is a privately owned and privately financed company.
Nolla ™ Silver Polymer Technology
Silver, in its many forms, has been used for a long time to kill microbes, i.e. bacteria, viruses, yeasts and mold, but Nolla™ is the only producer of a biocidal silver polymer technology in the world.
We have developed silver ionomers, a special group of ionic polymers, in which the silver ions are bound with a molecular bond to the cationic polymer. Nolla™ Silver Polymer Technology has a self-organizing structure, which is the key factor behind the exceptional performance of our technology.
Silver ionomers eliminate viruses, bacteria, yeasts and mold effectively. Their balance of safety and effectiveness is superior to any other biocide.
Our work
We are developing a wide variety of new applications for Nolla™ Silver Polymer Technology. Our technology has various applications, such as in biocides, cosmetics, pharmaceutical products and even in veterinary and industrial settings.
We work together with other companies by licensing out our Nolla™ Silver Polymer Technology and our expertise and skills related to the production of biocidal and cosmetic products.
Our range of Nolla™ Silver Polymer Technology-based products is expanded constantly.
We also produce the active substance of Nolla™ Silver Polymer Technology. Our production facilities are located in Viikki Science Park in Helsinki, Finland.
Our vision
We create added value by killing harmful microbes safely and effectively in order to support the well-being of the public.
We are all responsible for controlling the microbes of our environments. Hospital environments are extremely sensitive to microbe exposure, and communicable diseases spreading in hospitals are the most common cause of death in the Western world. Everyone of us is able to kill MRSA, MERS and SARS bacteria and other pathogens by using the safe and effective Nolla™ Silver Polymer Technology.
Biocides and green chemistry
Green chemistry, also known as sustainable chemistry, is a philosophy of technology and chemistry research that encourages designing products and processes that minimize the use and production of hazardous substances.
The use of sustainable chemicals and biocidal chemicals, in particular, is one of the key elements of protecting our environment. Nolla™ Silver Polymer Technology helps reduce the amount of chemical residues by more than 90% compared with the average product currently available in the market.
Green chemistry principles applied in the production of Nolla™ Silver Polymer Technology:
Our production processes use the minimum required amounts of ingredients. Silver concentrations in soil and seawater are approximately 0.1–0.4 and 0.01 ppm (millionths), respectively. Nolla™ Hand Sanitizer Foam contains only 90–150 ppm of silver while meeting the requirements of the European EN 1500 standard.
Our production process is completely safe.
We use silver chloride (AgCl), which is found as a mineral in the soil (Cerargyrite, AgCl). Silver can be recycled and silver ions are the most effective biocides found in nature.
Our name, Nolla™ (Zero), refers to the amount of material wasted in our production process.
We generate zero emissions into the air and water and the level of noise generated by our production is very low.
The performance of our products is very high and several test results indicate that they fulfil our promises. However, the best feedback we can get is from our customers!
Our products are designed to cause minimal skin irritation and to be safe and as mild as possible. Our products do not contain any preservatives, perfumes or colorants. Perfumes alone are among the five most common allergens in the world.
Production capacity
Our modern polymer production facility is located in Vantaa, Finland.
We produce a variety of Nolla™ polymers. We have developed production processes that minimize the amount of generated waste and required ingredients. The most important elements of the process are high-quality ingredients and processing equipment.
The process does not release any emissions to water or air. The level of noise generated by our production process is very low.
